A Heritage Coast. Adventure: Fog, Castles, and Coastal Walks
Well, hello there, fellow photo enthusiasts!
It's been a while since my last update, and what a few weeks it's been! The Heritage Coast landscape has been putting on quite a show lately, with moody skies, dramatic light, and, of course, the ever-present fog adding a touch of magic to everything.
Speaking of magic, let me tell you about my recent adventure. It all started with a mundane trip to Lidl in Bridgend (don't judge, they have the best Portuguese custards!). But as I was leaving the car park, Camera bag in the boot, something told me to take a detour. You know that feeling, right? That little voice whispering, "Go explore, adventure awaits!"
So I listened. I took a turn down a lane that I have been meaning to go to for a long time, and lo and behold, I stumbled upon this hidden gem (see photo above!). The fog was swirling amongst the trees, the stepping stones were leading into the mist... it was like something out of a fairytale. Naturally, I grabbed my camera and started snapping away.
But the adventure didn't end there. With the fog still clinging to the coastline, I decided to head towards Ogmore-by-Sea. Ogmore Castle, with its dramatic silhouette against the misty backdrop, was calling my name.
Now, Ogmore Castle is a place I've photographed countless times, but there's something about the fog that transforms it into something truly special. The ruins seem to emerge from the mist, whispering tales of bygone eras. It's a photographer's dream, and I spent a good hour or two just soaking it all in.
In the afternoon, the call of the coast proved too strong to resist. I hopped on the bus to Southerndown with my good dog Toby, and we decided to walk back along the beach towards Monknash. What a stunning stretch of coastline! The cliffs were glowing in the afternoon sun, the tide was coming in, leaving behind these incredible patterns in the sand... and the rockpools! Don't even get me started on the rockpools. Toby, ever the explorer, was in his element, clambering over rocks and peering into every crevice.
This photo (see below!) captures the essence of that walk perfectly. The golden light, the textured cliffs, the intricate patterns in the sand, and those amazing rock formations... it's a little slice of coastal paradise.
Sometimes, the best adventures are the ones we least expect. The ones that start with a simple trip to the supermarket and end with a camera roll full of magical moments. So next time you're out and about, keep your eyes peeled, listen to that inner voice, and don't be afraid to take a detour. You never know what treasures you might find, and a good pint or two after.
Until next time, happy shooting!
